Trifold wallets have a thicker design for folks who like a sturdy, hefty wallet feel.

Our trifold wallet is designed to take anything you have to throw at it. The billfold is equipped for currency and receipts of any size, and can house up to twenty bills at a time.

Four card slots and a window ID slot offer space for at least nine cards without stretching your leather too much. The ID slot flips open for easy access and tucks away when it’s not needed for added convenience.

Your wallet goes everywhere with you. The right one should get better the longer you carry it, not fall apart after a year. Every Popov wallet is saddle-stitched by hand from full-grain Seidel leather in our Nelson, British Columbia workshop, built to outlast its first owner.

Hand-stitched with two needles and one waxed thread, the saddle stitch holds tight even if a single stitch is cut. Edges are hand-burnished and polished. Interiors are cut to real-world carry sizes, bifolds, trifolds, front-pocket cardholders, money clips, biker wallets, and long wallets, so cards and cash sit where you expect them.

Where are Popov Leather wallets made?

Every Popov Leather wallet is hand-stitched in our workshop in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. Our 13-year team cuts, saddle-stitches, and burnishes each wallet in-house, nothing is outsourced.

Every wallet is built from full-grain Seidel leather and saddle-stitched by hand with waxed thread, two needles, one thread. If one stitch ever breaks, the rest hold. Backed by our lifetime guarantee.

How do I clean and care for a leather wallet?

For routine cleaning, wipe the wallet down with a slightly damp cloth to lift surface dust, then let it air-dry flat at room temperature. Never put a full-grain leather wallet in a washing machine, heat and detergent strip the natural oils that keep the leather supple.

For deep conditioning, work a pea-sized amount of our leather balm into the wallet with a soft cloth in small circles once a year. That is enough to keep full-grain Seidel leather supple for decades. Do not overdo it; more balm does not mean better conditioning.

Avoid direct heat like hair dryers or radiators. Leather shrinks and cracks when force-dried.

What happens if my leather wallet goes through the washing machine?

It will survive. Full-grain Seidel leather is durable enough to handle a wash cycle, but the oils that keep it supple will wash out, so the wallet will feel stiff and dry afterward.

First, reshape the wallet while it is still damp by gently opening and closing the folds and card slots. Set it flat in a warm (not hot) room and let it air-dry for 24 to 48 hours. Do not use a hair dryer, radiator, or direct sun, force-drying cracks the fibres.

Once fully dry, rub in a pea-sized amount of leather balm with a soft cloth. Work it in slowly and let the oils absorb for a few hours. After a couple of days of normal use, the wallet will return to its broken-in state.

How long does it take to break in a leather wallet?

Most customers report their wallet feels broken-in after 2 to 4 weeks of daily use. Our wallets ship deliberately tight because full-grain Seidel leather stretches in one direction, if the card slots were loose on day one, they would stretch out too far.

To speed things up, load the wallet with the cards and cash you carry every day, then slide it into your pocket and sit with it. Body heat and pressure from normal use is what softens the fibres. Do not force cards in and out of tight slots, gently work them.

After the break-in period, the leather will mould to your carry shape and the slots will hold their stretched size. From there on, the wallet only gets better: a darker patina, a softer hand, and a look that is uniquely yours.

Can I personalize a leather wallet with engraving?

Yes. Add laser-engraved initials, a name, or a date on the front of most Popov wallets at checkout. We use a crisp, easy-to-read font, and because the mark is laser-engraved (not printed), it deepens with the patina of the full-grain Seidel leather over time and will never fade.

Engraving is offered on the Traditional Bifold, Trifold, Front Pocket, 5 Card, Money Clip, Biker, and Long wallets. Add it as a free option when you order, lead time is the same as a non-engraved wallet.

Which leather wallet should I buy?

Start with how you carry. If you keep your wallet in a front pocket, choose the Leather Front Pocket Wallet or the slim Leather 5 Card Wallet. For a back pocket, the Traditional Bifold is our flagship and holds 6 to 8 cards plus folded cash.

If you carry more cards or coins, the Leather Trifold Wallet has dedicated slots for both. For minimalists who carry one card and a few bills, the Leather Money Clip Wallet is the thinnest option.

Do leather wallets last longer than fabric or bonded wallets?

By a wide margin. A department-store bonded or “genuine leather” wallet typically falls apart in 1 to 2 years, the stitching unravels and the layers separate. Our full-grain Seidel wallets are saddle-stitched by hand with waxed thread and backed by a lifetime guarantee, if it ever fails, we repair or replace it free of charge.

Full-grain is the strongest, densest layer of the hide. Top-grain is sanded to hide imperfections (and along with them, strength). Bonded “genuine” leather is glued scraps. Only full-grain develops a patina and outlasts its owner.

Do your leather wallets have RFID protection?

Our full-grain Seidel leather wallets do not have RFID shielding built in. Instead, we sell the Wallet Gauntlet, a credit-card-sized RFID-blocking card that slides into any card slot. One card shields every card stacked next to it, and you can move the Gauntlet between wallets as you rotate through them.

Leather itself does not block RFID signals, so a slim protective card is the cleanest way to add shielding without thickening the wallet. Not sure whether you need RFID protection? See the new FAQ below.
