Birchbark:

Field Notes' 60th Quarterly Limited Edition, for Fall 2023, is “Birch Bark.” It’s as simple, elegant, and austere as its name-sake tree. The genus Betula is known for its white, papery bark, evoked here by speckled 110# Mohawk Loop “Snow” cover stock, heavily debossed with just a hint of warm gray.

Bright green birch leaves turn radiant yellow in the autumn. When the leaves are gone in the winter, with snow on the ground, a birch stand becomes colorless, a perfect subject for dreamy black-and-white photos. These three seasonal stages are echoed in the green, yellow, and black staples of the books in each 3-Pack, and also in the graph colors of the 60# Finch Opaque body paper.

This is a simple, practical edition; a successor to centuries of notes, proclamations and lists inscribed on birch bark. It’s also a throwback to our own past Fall releases, like long-sold-out favorites “Mackinaw Autumn,” “Fire Spotter,” and “Shenandoah.” We hope you’ll find these useful for journaling and note-taking this fall. Expedition:

Aesthetically, you’ll find a design with plenty to like: a hi-visibility “Antarctic Survey Orange” front cover and “Polar Night Black” back cover, with a subtle varnish effect featuring a topographic map of Antarctica. The body pages feature our popular dot-graph paper printed in light gray.

The whole book is printed on Yupo Synthetic paper, an amazing tearproof and waterproof paper extruded from polypropylene pellets in Chesapeake, Virginia.

The pocket-size books feature Dan McCarthy’s artwork printed on sturdy 100# Domtar Cougar cover stock. The body of the book is Finch Opaque 60# text with a “Big Sky”-blue 3/16" grid. You’ll find these books indispensable whenever you take a moment from your busy day to catch your breath and collect your thoughts, on the farm or wherever else you may happen to be.

Our products are heirloom quality and intended to be passed on through generations.

All items are guaranteed for life if damage occurs when used under normal conditions and for the purpose intended. We will cover all shipping costs, just send it to us for a free repair (or replacement).

This lifetime warranty covers faults in materials and workmanshipand doesn't apply if damage is caused by unreasonable use or neglect or normal wear and tear.

All belts ship from our workshop within 3-7 days. Items that are hand-sewn (ie. wallets, book covers) typically take up to 1-2 weeks to make before they ship out. Once your order is ready, we ship it using the method you choose at checkout.

We offer free shipping for orders over $125. Please note that we cannot offer free shipping to remote regions at this time.
